Chiang Mai’s Inaugural Green Drinks

An Evening of Inspiration and Community at Free Bird Cafe

Chiang Mai is taking a significant step forward sustainability-wise with the launch of its very first Green Drinks event, set to become a monthly fixture for the environmentally conscious community.

Hosted by the beloved Free Bird Cafe, this gathering is a chance for like-minded individuals to connect, inspire, and explore real-world solutions to the environmental challenges we all face. It will be a relaxed, informal atmosphere where you can meet new friends, reconnect with familiar faces, and share your passion for sustainability.

Free Bird Cafe, known for its delicious vegan menu, will be providing a range of tasty treats, snacks, and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to keep you fueled throughout the evening.

What is Green Drinks?

Green Drinks is a global movement, with informal meetups happening in cities all over the world. These gatherings are designed for people who care deeply about the environment and are eager to make a difference. The format is flexible and organic, allowing each local chapter to create its own unique flavor.

Green Drinks International

Every month people who work or are engage in the environmental field meet up at informal sessions known as Green Drinks.

It is a lively mixture of people from NGOs, academia, government and business. Come along and you'll be made welcome. Just say, "are you green?" and we will look after you and introduce you to whoever is there. It's a great way of catching up with people you know and also for making new contacts. Everyone invites someone else along, so here’s always a different crowd, making Green Drinks an organic, self-organising network.

These events are very simple and unstructured, but many people have found employment, made friends, developed new ideas, done deals and had moments of serendipity. It's a force for the good and we'd like to help it spread to other cities. Contact your local node to get the latest info about coming along.

If there is no Green Drinks near you, you might want to set up a Green Drinks in your City. You can also read this article by Stuart McMillen of Canberra about his experiences being a Green Drinks organiser for the past ten years.

In Chiang Mai, you can look forward to an evening of engaging conversations, thought-provoking documentary screenings, and the opportunity to explore practical solutions to our environmental challenges.

Special Feature: Film Screening of Living the Change

One of the highlights of the evening will be the screening of Living the Change: Inspiring Stories for a Sustainable Future. This documentary, directed by Jordan Osmond and Antoinette Wilson from Happen Films, explores the transformative stories of individuals and communities who are leading the way in sustainable living. This documentary is packed with solutions you can act on immediately — think forest gardens and composting toilets to community-supported agriculture and timebanking.

Through interviews with experts and the lived experiences of ordinary people, Living the Change challenges us to rethink our approach to life in a world facing ecological crises. It’s an inspiring call to action that reminds us of the power of small, everyday changes.
