On July 18th, the Chiang Mai City Arts & Cultural Center hosted a press conference to announce an exciting addition to the arts scene in CNX: The Chiang Mai Performing Arts Festival 2023.

With a kid-friendly theme — Pantomime Planet — the festival will take place from October 21st-29th.

According to artistic director, Marisa Marchitelli, the objective of the festival is to promote joint cultural activities and performing arts in Chiang Mai.

“There’s a vibrant performing arts culture in Chiang Mai that struggles for support”, Marchitelli told CNX MAG.

It’s hoped the festival stimulates short-term economic benefits as well as promotes Chiang Mai as a hub for the performing arts. Festival organizers anticipate at least 25,000 people across all activities over the 9 days.

WIth plans to operate for at least five years with support and cooperation from both the public and private sectors, the organizers have partnered with the Super Volunteer Project, a training program for art management volunteers. The festival will serve as an open learning forum for youths and individuals who are interested in performing arts to have the opportunity to watch performances that meet international standards.

The organizers hope that Chiang Mai Pantomime Planet Festival 2023 will inspire those who are interested in performing arts, arts promotion and arts management. Go arts!
